NJIT Wireless Network Site ID Changes

The NJIT Wireless Site ID (SSID) will be changing as of January 14, 2005. A Site ID or SSID is used to identify a wireless network to a wireless device. The new Site ID will be:

njit

The initials NJIT all in lower case. The Site ID is provided to you automatically by the NJIT Wireless Network. Depending on the type of wireless client you have and the configuration of your wireless connection, you may be asked to verify that you want to connect new wireless network Site ID.

You may have to search for, or discover, the new Wireless Network Site ID if you have the automatic discovery of wireless network disabled on your system. You may wish to add the new Site ID as an automatic prefered network.

To manually select the new Site ID in XP:

In the Windows Task Bar, right click your wireless icon

Select: "View Available Wireless Networks"

The Site ID njit should appear. If it does not Click "Refresh network list" until it does

Select: njit

Click: Connect

You may be asked to Confirm you wish to connect to the network, Click "Yes"

Close the "Wireless Network Connection" window

The old NJIT Site ID of "12345" will continue to be supported thoughout the Spring 2005 Semester. However, we recommend that you delete this Site ID from your list of Preferred Networks.

To delete the old Site ID 12345 in XP:

Select: Start-Control Panel-Network and Internet Connections-Network Connections
Right click: your "Wireless Network Connection" and select "Properties"
Click the "Wireless Networks" tab.
Click the SSID 12345
Click "Remove"
Click OK

You may wish to set this as the default wireless network connection for your computer. To do this in XP:

Select: Start-Control Panel-Network and Internet Connections-Network Connections
Right click: your "Wireless Network Connection" and select "Properties"
Click the "Wireless Networks" tab.
Click the SSID njit
Click: "Move Up" until it is at the top of the list
Click: "Properties"
Select: Connection tab
Check the box: "Connect when this network is in range"
Click: OK
Click: OK in the Wireless Connection Properties window
