Getting your Microsoft WFW Workstation Started on the Net

The following guide will show you how to obtain basic utilities to get you started using the Internet and browsing the World Wide Web (WWW). This document assumes that the TCP/IP stack has been loaded and installed in Windows for Workgroups. The TCP/IP stack allows your computer to talk to the campus network using your network Interface (LAN) card. TCP/IP stands for Transmission Control Protocol and Internet Protocol. If the Computer Maintenance Facility (CMF) has installed your LAN card, then a TCP/IP stack has been installed for you. If not please refer to the Installing the TCP/IP Stack for Windows WFW instruction sheet.

We will first setup your PC for the Software needed. We will then use the FTP (File Transfer Protocol) to get a copy of Netscape, WS FTP, and Trumpet Telnet from NJIT's Anonymous FTP server. The anonymous FTP server allows people to access public domain software for use free of charge. Many sites offer this service. Lastly we will setup, install, and configure the software so you can use it with the NJIT network.
